Finally, the F.B.I., the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Marshals Service will be required to record custodial interviews of suspects by video, and the new policy encourages officials to use electronic recording during their investigations, like witness interviews.

The new recording policy takes effect July 1, 2014.

The Vermont legislature is considering a bill to require electronic recording of custodial interviews of suspects in certain serious crimes, such as sexual assault and homicide. The senate bill was referred to the house judiciary committee on April 23, 2014.
